KEY PLATFORM UPDATES
(and why they matter)
YouTube announced five new Shorts creation tools. And Instagram released Edits. Edits isn’t a full CapCut competitor yet, but they plan to roll out weekly updates — which means a paid tier is likely on the way. As the apps become clones of each other — and they will, aside from a few unique integrations or insights — you’ll eventually have to choose who gets your money: Meta or ByteDance. My recommendation would be to invest in the platform where you’re prioritizing short-form video.
TikTok’s second deadline came and went — and still, nothing. At this point, it feels like Trump’s just playing chicken with China. It’s not exactly ideal for the platform, brands, creators, or casual users who are all trying to figure out whether it’s worth putting time into an app that might just disappear. Or maybe it won’t. Who knows?
Instagram was spotted testing “locked” posts that ask you to “Enter secret code” to reveal the content — it’s got huge potential for product reveals or mystery destinations.
Canva dropped a bunch of updates at Canva Create but the one that seemed to get everyone the most excited was Canva Sheets — how long until aesthetic spreadsheets become the default?
