Welcome to ICYMI: You Need to Know It — a bonus edition for paid subscribers. This new monthly recap for creators and social media marketers will cover the biggest tech and platform updates that should be on your radar
October was a busy one. Meta announced several features for both Instagram and Threads, TikTok announced a new Out of Phone experience, and YouTube launched a number of creator-focused shopping features just in time for the holidays.
Let’s get into it. Here’s everything that happened in October:
📲 Threads
Threads rolled out an audio messages feature: “Voice Threads”.
They introduced a new “Edit” button – only available for up to five minutes after publishing. Though Meta has not officially explained why they’ve made this decision, it’s likely so users can’t change the integrity of a post after others have shared, liked, and endorsed it. Makes sense.
Threads also rolled out a paid partnership label for creators which pins an un-editable hashtag to the bottom of your post.
Lastly, they’re working on a new “Trending Topics” section. Similar to X (Twitter), the trending topics section will display the top conversations on the app.
