🗂 Managers, not only is it possible that your next hire might be an influencer but you might even recruit them on a platform like TikTok.
The company is testing a program to help people find jobs on the platform and connect with companies looking to find candidates. It's also meant to help brands use TikTok as a recruitment channel.
It’s also important to note that Gen Z now uses TikTok more than Instagram. Plan your strategy accordingly. Related: read this on Instagram’s eventual demise.
Finally, TikTok is letting some creators to pay to promote their videos on its ‘For You Page’ using Coins (TikTok’s in-app currency).
📲 Instagram is now letting you add up to 4 pronouns to your profile. You can also choose to display pronouns to only people who follow you.
▶️ YouTube revealed that “Hey guys” has been the preferred greeting for vloggers over the last decade. “Good morning” has progressively become more en vogue (possibly reflecting the rise of “get ready with me” videos) while “Hi everyone” seems well on its way to oblivion.
🛑 A letter signed by 44 Attorneys General urged Facebook to scrap its plans for Instagram Youth, a separate version of the photo-sharing platform specifically designed for young users under the age of 13. 📺 Jennifer Aniston shared a first look at the upcoming Friends reunion on her Instagram account and the famous replies — Reese Witherspoon! Kaley Cuoco! Charlie Puth! Lily Collins! David Beckham! — must be sending Comments By Celebs into overdrive.
💰 Olivia Jade is making a comeback. As Insider points out, the controversial creator has begun posting regularly to YouTube, Instagram and TikTok and resumed sharing sponsored content.
Reminder: Long before the college admission scandal that sent both of her parents to jail, Olivia was a successful influencer turned entrepreneur with multiple sponsorship deals and a co-branded makeup line. Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli are an extreme example of parents underestimating the creator economy for the prestige of college at their own peril.
⏰ Charli D’Amelio seems miserable in this incredibly awkward interview with her sister Dixie. And for anyone who says the teen can just walk away, it’s not as easy as a digital detox. There’s a Hulu show, endorsement deals, partnerships and other obligations she and her parents have committed to that will keep her online for the foreseeable future. “Being an influencer is not fun & games, it's a 24/7 job,” points out Insider’s Kat Tenbarge.
🍝 It’s a new week, and time for a new viral food video. But these gross food hacks aren’t a fluke. Your least favorite gross viral food videos are all connected to a magician from Las Vegas. This Eater article is practically a primer on how to create food content for social that everyone will watch but no one will eat.
*note, these TikTok-inspired mozzarella-stuffed artichoke patties seem legit.
😡 Things not to do that you think brands would have learned as part of Influencer Marketing 101: Don’t force Black influencers to buy your product so they can apply to participate in a Juneteenth campaign. It doesn’t matter if there are extenuating circumstances. Just don’t.
📽 YouTube, Snapchat and TikTok are increasingly betting that their pathway to growth lies with creators: “The focus on creators continues even to the original programs commissioned by the video platforms. Scripted shows were mostly sidelined this year in favor of unscripted fare, and prominent creators were front and center.”
