“I start dumping links and rough ideas into a Google doc.”
How do you keep track of everything?
I can’t imagine having ONE document that contains everything. I have stuff in a few different places in a vain attempt to keep things organised. I should try this. I think part of my problem is I write so many random notes and thoughts that never make it to “print”.
Yeah by the end of each year it is an epic doc but everything goes in there. Unless I’m on my phone and don’t have time then I take a screenshot of the article or social post I want to remember. Then I scroll through my camera roll and add the links or thoughts to the doc. It’s so much easier when everything goes in one central place.
Some amazing insight in here. Thank you so much for putting this together.
I brought an email list across from another project, so still going through quite the churn, one or two in a day - but one or two out. Going to just have to keep laughing until it stabilises
Oh yeah I can’t imagine how tricky that might be. When someone gives you their email there’s a very specific intent, I’m not sure how that transfers. Best of luck!
This is fantastic! I love hearing the step-by-step growth story! I've posted on-and-off to my Wordpress blog (is anyone still on WP anymore?) since 2020, and reading this makes me want to get back at it and take it more seriously (and potentially move to substack). I always overthink it, but your experience shows how far one can get just by starting and staying consistent! Thank you for sharing!
No it's my bad, I'm so used to reading the anniversary posts where that thingy is higher up in the post. :P My eyes were so lazy I missed all your good red marks! I don't know why but my ability to zoom into that was a bit limited, I had to open up the piece on PC.
I just realized I forgot about process, I'll probably add a few items to the newsletter but the short version is
Monday I start dumping headlines and ideas into a Google doc
Wednesday I write a very rough draft
Thursday afternoon I try to make it pretty
Friday morning I get up at 6am, read headlines, make edits and then publish 💌
Amazing tips and progress! Have a pot to learn and recommend
great stuff! it makes growing a newsletter look very easy :)
Congrats on hitting 10K 👏 This breakdown is super helpful for me.
I feel like my newsletter has hit a plateau so I need to do something differently. You've definitely given me some ideas to test.
Have you replaced the income from your full-time job, or is this more of a side hustle?
Thanks! It’s a side hustle for me. I would definitely need to put more effort into paid if I wanted to make this a full time thing
"Write for the audience you want to have" is excellent advice. Great tips!
thank you!

Definitely trying this! It gets difficult to juggle multiple different formats and devices. My late New Year’s resolution to become more organised.
I love how practical and usable this article is. I get in my own way as a marketer. I need to be out on social media a lot more.
I'm glad this resonated, thanks Christopher!
Thank you for the tips. I have followed all through from Twitter, LinkedIn and now here.
Glad it’s helpful!
This is fantastic, thank you. I am just starting on my newsletter journey and this gave me the confidence to get started.
Awesome, good luck!
Really appreciate this (especially your timeline!) Going to share it with all my book coaching clients who have Substacks
Glad it's helpful!

I'm so glad it was helpful! 3 excellent points: don't overthink it, just get started, stay consistent!

This was super helpful, thank you so much!
Thanks for reading!
Can you please show your Substack graphs and those things? What's your ID on Threads?
Which graph? I included the growth chart from 2021 to today.
My handle on Threads is my name
Oh pardon me. I missed it somehow with the yellow border my phone's a bit on the small side.
Thanks for the transparency of this post. It's super fascinating.
If you click you should be able to expand like a photo. I added the border to try and make it stand out a bit 😄 apparently that didn’t work
