@Lia, what do you think about the reason why there is no web app for Threads, just mobile, and why it's not available in Europe
About this very last point, I'm scared that the reason is because the GDPR law in Europe, which would mean that Threads is collecting many personal data
They released V1 but plan to keep building so it's possible they just hadn't built for desktop yet.
As for Europe, yes, data privacy laws are probably why it's not available there. I don't know how that gets resolved. Ideally Meta would concede to local law but that seems unlikely based on what we've seen in Canada and Australia where they've stopped users sharing news rather than pay media publishers.
Keen to know your thoughts on how Instagram users, who are encouraged by the algorithm to post visual content (photo and video), will adapt to a text based platform.
The ones who are writers at heart or have strong interpersonal skills seem to be shining right now. Iβm sure the visual people will figure out an option eventually (or stick to Instagram) but itβs certainly not as easy as reposting Reels and photos.
What do you recommend if youβre not getting any engagement on threads? To me it seems like the people who already had a large following get engagement.
Sure a lot of people started with considerable audiences. The two things I notice getting traction are frequency and humor. People are posting a lot and itβs a lot of jokes and memes. If thatβs not natural to you - go comment on other peopleβs posts. Find friends or connections and ask them what they think of Threads. If youβre starting from scratch youβve got to warm the room, make small talk before you can expect everyone to know who you are.
I like Notes but it's pretty insular. Threads already has 70M+ users so there are more people to connect with. But I also think there's room for both β I may not check Notes as frequently but I still do scroll a couple of times a week
Is it just me or is it easier to grow an audience on Threads than it has been in the past? What do we believe accounts for this I wonder? Did Meta's AI get better at this? I know LinkedIn's Feed has had a lot of upgrades in the A.I. department.
Itβs the Instagram integration. A lot of people are defaulting to following everyone who theyβre already following on Instagram. And then there are a lot of additional accounts in the Feed to discover. You actively have to change your settings to get just Following. And everyone is more open and receptive to new voices because itβs a new platform. It wonβt last so now is the time to take advantage
I'm not familiar with Mailerlite but would say there is a big difference between an email marketing platform and a newsletter platform that encourages discovery and recommendations of its writers. So if you're looking to write a newsletter, yes to Substack. And yes you can take your content and your email list if you leave

Great issue by the way, as usual. Congrats!
Thanks!

Any thoughts regarding Substack Notes and Threads?

I hope that some sort of federation between the platforms will finally happen. Itβs about time. :)
